The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which many people know as Food Stamps, is here to make sure that individuals and families who don't make a lot of money can afford healthy food. In Texas, the organization in charge of this program is the Health and Human Services Commission.

Every month, those who get SNAP benefits will receive money on a special card called the Lone Star Card. This card works a lot like a regular debit card, but it's specifically for buying basic foods like fruits, vegetables, meats, and grains. It's important to remember that you can't use it to buy alcohol, tobacco, ready-to-eat hot foods, or to pay any kind of bills.

SNAP is a crucial program for helping more families afford the food they need every day.
